McKenzie's Point 1930's Waterfront Estate

Nearly a 50% price reduction from an original list price of $250,000-here offered at $130,000. Very rare "Sasco Point" waterfront real estate advertisement from circa 1936. This property was once owned by former advertising agency executive, publisher of the Encyclopaedia Britannica, Assistant Secretary of State and US Senator William Benton, and was known for a period as the Benton Estate. A newer estate is on the property near the very end of Sasco Hill Road. On the far right hand side of the property, you can see what appears to be a small building, which, remnants of its cement and brick foundation can be seen in the sand below the cliff, on McKenzie's Point at the rock wall. The property sold for $13,500,000 in 2001.

Here is a photo of the front of the estate facing Long Island Sound circa 1997 before it was replaced with a much larger, and modern estate.

"BEACHSIDE" at Pine Creek Beach

Early postcard, from "BEACHSIDE" at 1387 South Pine Creek Road and Pine Creek Avenue many years ago had "accommodations for family living by the week, month, or season". The very rare postcard further read: "The finest bathing beach in Connecticut..no finer vacation spot anywhere". This is a color-litho "bursheen" finished postcard, published by Lionel Eliovson Photography, Fairfield Conn. These two structures still exist...what is missing in this photo, is the Kensie Point Condominium building built in 1983 that replaced SURFSIDE on the beach.

Little Bridgeport in 1897

Once the trolley line was connected, Bridgeport residents of modest means could, for a mere 5 cents, enjoy a day at a Fairfield beach. The idea was so magnetic that by 1897 a summer colony known as "Little Bridgeport" had sprung up -- beachside cottages built off Reef Road by the trolley crowd. The trolley had created a new way of life, making it convenient to live in one place (suburban Fairfield) and work in another (Bridgeport).
