Southport Harbor at the turn of the century

(click on image twice to supersize)
Southport Harbor at the turn of the century.
Photo: date not certain but appears to be most likely circa 1890-1900 and not later than 1905.
Moored next to one of the last of Southport's Market Fleet, the schooner on the right appears to be the "George Edwin, " a market boat owned by the Simon Banks firm. The market boats ceased operation about 1903-4. The "Mary Elizabeth" was the last one sold in 1905 and taken to Long Island.

"This photo appears to have come from a local newspaper. By the style of the power boats, it looks to be 1940s. I believe the double-ender at the dock with the mast was the training vessel for the Southport Sea Scouts." -Arthur Jennings

"This photo shows Howard's mooring lift with an old style steel mooring float." -Arthur Jennings
Also, the old Pilot House roof to the far right is visible.
