Southport Harbor 4th of July Tub Racing & Watersports circa 1917-1919

(right click on image to open in new window to supersize)
"This photo is rare and historically priceless. In the background through the trees you can see part of the old mansion that stood at the corner of Harbor Road and Old South Road. I believe that it had a large and imposing tower. The automobiles along Harbor Road suggest the photo is WW I vintage".
-Arthur Jennings
Note: canoe and tub races; people at the dock getting in their tubs.
Also the old BC&MMR on Harbor Road.

Looking towards the PYC junior dock with people boarding the club launch. Sasco Hill in the distance and to the right. "Also to the right are the pilings of the old onion dock. Its final remains were removed when the harbor was dredged a few years back. The sailboat in the middle of the photo is a Thistle. It died away and then had a huge comeback in 1992-1997." -Chris Jennings.

Southport Harbor circa 1930's/1940's
"Date of photo uncertain. I do know that in 1948 Atlantic 19 was owned by J.W.C. Bullard of PYC, and this is likely the correct answer. Atlantic #19 was called "Pampero"."

"This is a photo of Barbara Burr's Chesapeake Bay Retriever, "Flair", standing guard at YYY with her friend Ferdie Jennings, back in the 1950's. Flair was a fixture at YYY for many years and was first mate on Barbara Burr's lobster runs. Barbara's traps were usually set off Greens Farms where the bottom was rocky. Those runs were fun."

The Meeker Docks circa 1880's
The old Meeker Docks on Harbor Road. The Wakeman Meeker warehouses and docks were located on Harbor Road at the foot of Westway Road.
"This was a photo that had been in storage in a cardboard box for a long time. You can see where moisture has caused spotting. The first two buildings were torn down. I'm not sure when. The third section with the stone foundation is still part of the old onion house that we see today. The Meeker wharf area was a popular place for the public to gather on festive occasions. It was used as a "public" space. This old photo really shows the importance of the Meeker Wharf to the community back then". -Arthur Jennings
