Southport Savings Bank

Southport, Connecticut circa 1905
Description: The Savings Bank was built 1863-65. It is the subject of HABS (Historical American Bldgs. Survey) Report Ct #315. This building is also discussed in Cigliano & Schwarz, _Southport, Architectural Legacy of a Ct Village_. There were some offices on the second floor. Sign at door on right is that of H H Perry, insurance agent; the sign at door on left may be for Dr Joseph Hetzel, who had an office here in the early 1900's. The wooden signpost visible at right originally stood at the foot of Main St where the DAR Memorial fountain was installed in 1903. The signpost was moved here when the fountain was put in. Visible to the far right of the bank is a portion of the Disbrow market building, a structure removed in 1926.
