PEQUOT LIBRARY ANNOUNCES THE HIRING OF A NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

pequot library announces the hiring of a new executive director
Southport, CT – After two and a half years at the helm of Pequot Library, Martha Gates Lord, EdD is stepping down from her position as Executive Director. Mrs. Lord says, “I am retiring from fulltime employment in order to have more personal flexibility to enjoy family, friends, and other interests. It has been an extraordinary privilege to serve our community by leading this remarkable institution.”

President of Pequot Library’s Board of Trustees, William P. Russell, Jr. states, “We are so thankful for the tireless work Martha has invested in Pequot Library. Through her leadership, and the significant efforts of our staff and volunteers, the visibility of Pequot's world-class programming, literary collections, and events has been brought to new heights throughout our region. As a greater number of people are enriched by the Pequot experience, the more our community realizes its irreplaceable value. A positive upshot of increased attendance has been Pequot's overall growth as an institution. This positive momentum allowed us to attract a number of highly qualified candidates in our recent executive search process.”

Pequot Library’s Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the hiring of Heather-Marie Montilla, MPA as the new Executive Director. Mrs. Montilla is the former Executive Director of New York City’s Doing Art Together, Inc., a boutique visual arts education nonprofit dedicated to bringing hands-on workshops to under-resourced NYC children. She was the Director of Development for the Neuberger Museum of Art at Purchase College in Purchase, NY. Prior to that Mrs. Montilla was a Development Officer with Community Impact at Columbia University and was Executive Director and Founding Trustee of the Ted Thomas Dance Foundation for the Public in New York City. For the past fifteen years she has been promoting learning and development and has made an impact in both the arts and education arenas. Her extensive nonprofit experience, a Masters in Public Administration from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, a BA from Duke University plus her significant networks in nonprofits and philanthropy, will advance Pequot Library’s mission well into the future.

Mrs. Montilla says, "I am so thrilled to join the Pequot Library as the new Executive Director. The Pequot Library is such a special place, and I look forward to working with the talented staff, dedicated board, and committed volunteers. I hope to build long-lasting strategic partnerships with Fairfield Public Library and other libraries, cultural institutions, nonprofits, and schools to offer high quality programs inspired by our Special Collections. Through these collaborations, it is my expectation that the Pequot Library will have a collective impact on the Fairfield community and beyond."
