Fairfield Firefighter Joe Rainis receives
Southport Conservancy Service Award

June 4, 2014 - At its Annual Meeting, Southport Conservancy Chair Laura Fasano presented Joe Rainis with this year's Southport Conservancy Service Award for his efforts to preserve Ye Yacht Yard in Southport.

"I’d like to begin tonight by recognizing a neighbor, friend and firefighter who has tirelessly "minded the shop" so to speak at Ye Yacht Yard. Through Irene and Sandy, this person has spent countless hours to save and preserve the buildings we know as Ye Yacht Yard. Nothing could save the Oar House from Sandy, but the Shed and telephone booth stand today with their contents intact thanks to the vigilance of this one man," said Fasano.

Joe's passion and efforts to help preserve this historic boat yard for future generations to enjoy (that was run by local legends Howard and Barbara Burr) is just one example of his selfless dedication to his community.

Thank you Joe Rainis for all you do!
