Fairfield Public Schools Townwide Student Art Show at Pequot Library

FAIRFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS TOWNWIDE STUDENT ART SHOW AT PEQUOT LIBRARY

Southport, CT – The Fairfield Public Schools announce their much-anticipated Fairfield Townwide Student Art Show to be held at Pequot Library from Tuesday, May 27 – Thursday May 29, 2014, 10:00am – 8:00pm. The exhibition will be in Pequot Library’s Auditorium/Concert Hall, Reading Room, and in The Perkin Gallery. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

More than 800 two-dimensional and many 3D pieces of art will be on display. The show is a tribute to the talented students and teachers at Fairfield’s two high schools, three middle schools and 11 elementary schools, exemplifying the progression of work from kindergarten through high school.

It is one of the gala events of the Fairfield school year and means so much to the students to know that their community is recognizing them. This show is a wonderful opportunity for Fairfield students to display not only the outstanding pieces from each grade level but to demonstrate the building blocks of our art program.

Hundreds of proud parents, students and educators will wander through the exhibition; admire the color schemes, patterns, compositions and ingenuity of the work. Parents will take pictures and “selfies,” hug their children, and meet their art teachers.

Students' subject matter ranges from figurative animals to abstract self-portraits. There will be black-and-white pen-and-ink designs, paper structures, colorful paintings, wire figurines, vases, digital photographs and unique clay vessels.

A special showing of Advanced Placement Studio Art Selections will be on exhibition in The Perkin Gallery from May 27 through June 9. The exhibition features work from the talented and dedicated AP students at Fairfield Ludlowe and Fairfield Warde High Schools.

The Teacher/Student/Parent Reception is on Wednesday, May 28 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Wakeman Boys & Girls Club is providing refreshments in a tent outside, and there will be lawn games and activities for little ones on Pequot’s Great Lawn. Mark Edinberg, founding member of Prescription Jazz and Steve Clarke, owner of Q-UP Studios and Music Productions, performs on the stage inside while the community admires the artwork. Due to the anticipated attendance, Police explorers will direct traffic.

Karen Linder, Director of Development at Pequot Library says, “Bringing literature, art, music, science and the humanities to our community has been part of Pequot Library’s mission for 125 years. Now, in Fairfield’s 375th Anniversary year we are delighted to have been chosen by the Fairfield Public Schools to host their 40th Annual Townwide Art Show!”
