16 tents popped up on the Great Lawn of Pequot Library on Friday night, June 21. Over 100 people, from all over town attended Pequot’s Annual Potluck Supper and Campout to kick off summer reading. Many came just to hear the Merwin Mountain Band, while enjoying homemade potluck dishes, and for the adventurous families, spend the night outside.

Couples, singles, and families of all ages, some of whom have been attending Pequot Library’s Annual Potluck Supper and Campout for years, were delighted to see many new faces and new families. Lawn chairs were casually strewn on the grass, casual fare enjoyed and for the young ones, a parachute flopping game that entranced over 40 youngsters to play. At 9pm “The Big Pillow Fight” commenced, lasting until all the laughter stopped.

Folks relaxed on lawn chairs enjoying the fresh night air and the good music. Kids frolicked on the Great Lawn, and the traditional campfire treats, s’mores, were roasted, assembled, and devoured.

The Merwin Mountain Band was formed by four neighbors who live way up on the same country road in Fairfield, CT. They originally came together because they were drawn to the same music they all grew up with: Motown, country, rock ‘n roll, pop standards, and jazz. With two guitars, three-part harmonies and the occasional bongos, they relish the challenge of a diverse song list. “Their music is always perfect for this outdoors, fun, and casual event,” said one participant.
