Bob Wright delivers Commencement Address at FCDS 2013

June 12, 2013 marked the 76th commencement at Fairfield Country Day School. Bob Wright, former Chairman and CEO of NBC Universal, Vice Chairman of GE, Autism Speaks Co-founder, and a former Fairfield Country Day School parent, gave the commencement address.
Wright spoke to the students about some of the fundamental values that will help them be successful in life and many of those core values align with the school’s core competencies: respect, hard work, and integrity. Wright said, “It is not enough to simply respect and treat others equally—but to live – yes live a life of integrity. 24/7. Real integrity is a way of being. And it is critical in this era of hyper-communication.”
Wright spoke about his personal drive with Autism Speaks and the success they have had raising awareness about autism. While they have covered much progress in education and early detection, there is still more to be done. He concluded his thoughts by saying, “It is critical to our world that you keep service as your core—and that brings us back to integrity, yes? Doing what’s right—when it’s right. Always. Integrity. Scholarship. Respect. Passion. Community. Service. All of these qualities are now you. You’ve passed all your tests with flying colors. As you move on to higher levels of education and finally – the working world: Do not lose sight of them! Remember where you started. Remember your neighbors. In good times, remember those suffering. Remember my grandson Christian and all those on the autism spectrum. Work hard to transform your communities.”
FCDS graduates will be attending the following schools: Avon Old Farms, Deerfield Academy, Fairfield College Preparatory School, Fairfield Ludlowe High School, Greens Farms Academy, Kent School, Lawrenceville School, Loomis Chaffee, Middlesex, Millbrook School, Northfield Mount Hermon, St. Joseph’s High School, The Taft School, and Westminster School.
Fairfield Country Day School is an independent school for boys grades pre-K through 9, founded in 1936. Our broad-based curriculum offers challenging academics balanced by a rich selection of music, art, and athletics. Our community and the relationships it fosters are central to the educational experience here, defining roles and expectations and instilling respect for self and others in each boy. As a result, at Fairfield Country Day, every boy excels.
