Fairfield's Reynolds a world sailor

Just call her world traveler. Or maybe world sailor is more appropriate now. Julia Reynolds, who attends school at Tomlinson Middle in Fairfield, already has built up quite the impressive sailing resume. And she’s only 14. On March 23 she traveled to Holland for the Magic Marine International Easter Regatta with the USODA team, a prestigious event she qualified for last November in New Orleans at the USODA mid-winters, which attracted 300 sailors. In Holland, it was a completely new experience and environment for the young athlete, who competed from March 19 through April 1, sailing on Lake Braassemermeer in Roelofarendsveen, in The Netherlands. “Once I got to Holland, it was just plain cold and tiring,” Reynolds said. “The temperature ranged from 25-50 degrees, but always felt like less. I was wearing everything I brought, and was prepared for skiing. But it was also very cool to be sailing with kids from all over Europe.” Reynolds, who was part of a 20-person U.S. sailing team, was coached by Rich Feeney and Adrienne Patterson. In Holland, Reynolds and her team had three days of practice and four total days of racing with eight races. Reynolds, who hails from a sailing family, finished the event in impressive fashion.
