Please SIGN THE PETITION to save Pequot Library today

The Pequot Library has quietly and unassumingly served the Town of Fairfield for over 120 years. Like many community and non-profit organizations, Pequot Library has cared more about the people it serves than burnishing the reputation of the institution itself.

This has resulted in many misperceptions about the Library.
The key points we want you to know are:
--Pequot Library is an integral part of Fairfield’s public library system.
--Over 115,000 people of all ages and interests come to our unique educational and cultural programs.
--40 Literary Events
--25 Musical concerts
--305 Children’s Educational programs
--30 Teens’ programs
--10 traditional community events (Book Sales, 4th of July Bike Parade, Holiday Caroling Party, Easter Egg Roll)

For each $1 contributed by the town, Fairfield’s taxpayers receive $3+ in services Pequot Library’s heritage to Fairfield is as a Historic American Building open to all.

Please sign our petition and vote to restore funding to Pequot Library!

The Board of Finance, faced with strong community sentiment favoring restrained tax increases, voted to strip out of the proposed budget the $350K for Pequot Library. This was done without the completion of an evaluation of the non-profit sector that had been directed and initiated by the BOF, and came as a late and true surprise to all involved, including the 1st Selectman. It wasn’t a negotiated outcome from a normal process.

Sincerely,
Martha Gates Lord, Ed.D. Executive Director, Pequot Library
