On Sunday Aug. 28, 2011 Tropical Storm Irene pushed the outer beacon in the channel at the entrance to Southport Harbor off its large block foundation.
Since then, it's been difficult getting used to seeing the beacon laying on an angle, barely atttached.
On Tuesday morning October 9, 2012, the 74 foot NUATE and its crew removed the beacon at 11:48am as the restoration process now begins.
