Not exactly camping by the book at Pequot Library

Talk about bad timing. The moment the tents were set up and the food was set out, the clouds rolled in and triggered showers.That set the stage Friday evening for the Pequot Library's annual "Summer Reading Kickoff, Potluck Supper and Campout." Despite the showers, which lasted only a short time, the fun continued, with some 50 families enjoying activities like a campfire, making S'Mores, potluck food, music, badminton, tossing Frisbees and, of course, overnight camping on the Great Lawn.
For many, like Caroline Lawlor, the event signaled the start of summer. "I've been coming here for the last few years," she said. "I love it, get to see my friends and have some fun."
Caroline's family and Children's Librarian Susan Ei were the only ones to camp the first year the program was offered about seven years ago. Ei said that, for many families, the event is a way for families to try camping together for the first time.
And though the campout is now popular, people can also come just for the evening fun, which many did, including the Lawlors this year. READ MORE:
