Pequot Library's 2012 MIDWINTER BOOK SALE Jan.14-17th

Holds Annual Mid-Winter Book Sale
Saturday January 14 – Tuesday, January 17th

The little sister of the Library’s nationally known Summer Book Sale, the Mid-Winter sale is smaller but more intimate with many treasures and bargains to be had. There is no admission charge for the sale and all proceeds benefit Pequot Library.
The primary focus of the Mid-Winter sale is fiction and the Library’s auditorium, where the Mid-Winter sale is held, will be full of a broad array of works of fiction in all genres in both hardcover and paper backs. There will also a good selection of children’s books and videos, and vintage paper backs. There are so many books sorted and priced this year, that the Library will begin to “restock” the tables during the Sale. Patrons looking for just the right book are encouraged to return each day to see what new books have been brought up out of storage.
These will also be a large selection of prints, thanks to the work of book sale volunteer Stephanie Weaver. These prints, which are also donated to the Library during the course of the year, are colorful, interesting, and often humorous.
Paige Gillies, the book sale volunteer in charge of LP records, has actively been pursuing donations of these items to the Library, and there will be a large selection at the Mid-Winter Sale in mint condition and sorted into the following categories: Jazz, Rock, Folk and Country, Latin, and the Spoken Word. The LP is enjoying a surge in popularity recently and has become very collectible.

To help everyone at the Book Sale escape the mid-winter doldrums, Mark Naftalin and Friends will be performing both Saturday and Sunday starting at 1:00 p.m. Mark is a nationally known blues piano player who performed with the Paul Butterfield Blues Band.
The members of the group are:
Mark Naftalin - piano
Chance Browne - guitar, harmonica & vocals
Paul Gabriel - guitar & vocals
Daniel J - guitar, harmonica & vocals
Steve Russell - guitar, harmonica & vocals
Washboard Slim - washboard, harmonica & vocals
Gerry Manning - clarinet, harmonica & vocals
Paul Bluestein - guitar & vocals
Billy Bileca - upright bass
Barry Urich - drums & percussion
Their performance will be broadcast live on WPKN radio (89.5 FM, which helps draw patrons to the book sale from all over southern Connecticut.
Both the Mid-Winter and the Summer Book sale depend exclusively on books donated throughout the course of the year to the Library. These donations come in a steady, constant stream from throughout the entire region. The anonymous generosity of the community is at the heart of these events which, together, raise about 15% of the Library’s annual operating budget. Each book donated to the Book Sale helps the Library buy new books and continue to provide the personal, warm, and helpful library services that are part of what makes Pequot Library such a special place.
The generosity of the community in making donations is only half the story. The volunteers who come in almost everyday throughout the year to process, sort, and price all of the books for both the Mid-Winter Sale as well as the Summer sale are the other half. Without their hard work, the Sale would not be possible. There are many volunteer opportunities at the book sale and if you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please call or email the Library at the number below.

The hours of the 2012 mid-winter book sale are as follows:
Saturday, January 14th 9 AM to 5 PM
Sunday, January 15th Noon to 5 PM
Monday, January 16th 9 AM to 5 PM
Tuesday, January 17th 9 AM to noon or until all books are gone.
